New Year, New Plan: How To Get More Organized This Year

You are here:

There’s no better time to think about getting organized and on track for the year ahead.  I think we were all feeling kind of “blah” (and that’s putting it nicely..) coming out of 2020, so I’m grateful for a fresh start.

I know getting organized in your life can seem overwhelming, but I’m here to tell you it IS possible, and you can do it!  I want to give you 5 tips to help you plan better this year, and be more organized in your everyday life.

Use a planner

Organizing your time is the same as organizing your physical world. The two are connected. Your planner is a tool to help you manage your home. You have the ability to schedule in tasks that need your attention or realize you need to delegate if there are no time slots available. It really is something that helps to keep you more organized (and stay that way) throughout the year, so I recommend getting and using one now.

The options are endless when it comes to planners, but here is a great variety to check out if you’re needing one.

Create a monthly budget.

Don’t automatically think of not being able to have any fun when you hear the word “budget”.  It doesn’t have to be a negative, daunting thing, or one that makes you cringe!  Whether you already have a budget or not, taking the time to make one (or update) will keep you on track and organized with your financial goals for this year, and you can actually see where your money is going every month.

You may want to use pen and paper, a simple excel spreadsheet works or you can utilize an app on your phone.  Check out the Every Dollar budget app (they have a free version), and you can create your budget in just a few minutes. Be sure to use the method that is most convenient for you.

Set regular goals.

You don’t have to set big, scary resolutions to start every new year, but having goals in place that you know and WANT to achieve is important.  Think about your relationships, work/business, health, finances, etc., and write those goals down!  Keep a list on your phone, so you can refer back to it regularly. Write them out there so you’re reminded of what you’re working toward this year. Its been very helpful for me personally to see in writing what my soul desires. Then circle that three you want to work on each quarter and break it down into your planner.

Practice regular decluttering.

Decluttering is one of the best ways to make your home feel more organized, and in order.  I don’t recommend trying to declutter and go through everything in your house in 1 or 2 days though-that just won’t happen. Start with one area at a time, and give yourself a realistic timeframe (aim for 2 areas each month). Set a timer, turn on your favorite music or podcast, and get to work, friend!

I guarantee you’ll feel such a sense of accomplishment and relief getting more organized when you clean up your space! If you haven’t done so, set up your “exit” closet to hold all the things you are sending out of your home. Then call to schedule a pickup.

Focus on one thing at a time.

As women, we can do a million things at once but when it comes to organizing pick 1 drawer, 1 cabinet, 1 closet, and start there. Don’t try to tackle the room as a whole. Just complete the first task from start to finish prior to moving to the next.

I hope these 5 tips are helpful for you this new year. I want you to feel more organized and less stressed in 2021. Let me know which of these you’re going to implement for your year ahead-I’ll be cheering you on!
